The Critical Theory Perspective on Modernity and Postmodernity: The Case of Jürgen Haberma ( An Analytical Study in Social Theories)
Research Abstract
This study examines the stance of Critical Theory, particularly within the Frankfurt School, on modernity and postmodernity, focusing on the work of German philosopher Jürgen Habermas, a leading figure of its second generation. The topic is significant because modernity and postmodernity represent pivotal stages in the development of contemporary Western thought. The research aims to clarify the concept of Critical Theory, highlight key issues it addresses, and analyze Habermas’s approach to modernity and postmodernity through his theory of communicative rationality. Using a critical-analytical methodology, the study finds that Habermas seeks to complete the project of modernity by addressing its crises, while critically engaging with the relativistic and deconstructive tendencies of postmodern discourse.
