Master Title
The Poetical Theatre of Anas Dawod A Semiological Study
Master Abstract
Abstract
This study aims to analyze all the signs included in the theatrical text, as the semiology of theater seeks to uncover the meaning of the text within the context of communication. The researcher has chosen the theater of Anas Dawood because it is rich in symbols and signs; his characters appear as masks, and the events in his plays serve as masks for historical figures and events. The playwright intended for his theatrical texts to serve as a realistic counterpart moving behind the historical narrative.
The nature of the study required it to be structured into three chapters, preceded by an introduction and a preface, followed by a conclusion, along with sources and references.
The Introduction discusses the reasons for choosing the topic, its significance, objectives, methodology, and literature review.
The Preface covers the definition of semiology, its development, its relationship with theater, as well as the playwright’s life and works.
Chapter One examines, in its first section, the semiology of thresholds in Anas Dawood's theater, including the title, dedication, and preface. The second section explores the semiology of signs, such as the semiology of colors and natural beings.
Chapter Two analyzes, in its first section, the semiology of artistic structure in Anas Dawood’s theater, applying it to The Princess Who Fell in Love with the Poet and The Trial of Al-Mutanabbi. The second section discusses language, dialogue, and stage directions in his plays.
Chapter Three addresses, in its first section, the semiology of characters in Anas Dawood’s theater, while the second section examines the semiology of time and space in his plays.
